Your BMW's front strut mounts serve a couple of different functions. Primarily, they secure the struts to the chassis of the vehicle. In addition, the strut mounts also house the strut bearing which cannot be replaced. We normally see the strut bearing show wear in as little as 50,000 miles. In addition to strut bearing wear, we also see the rubber of the mount itself start to tear and fall apart.

The covering cap required for use with this strut mount must be 32mm in diameter. Original strut mounts used a smaller cap which has a diameter of 28.5mm. The 32mm cap is p/n 31311139453 if you do not already have it.
