Your BMW's clutch slave cylinder is responsible for controlling the shift fork located on the inside of the bellhousing. If your clutch pedal goes straight to the floor and does not come back or you can see a trail of brake fluid around the transmission under your car, chances are the slave cylinder has failed and will need to be replaced. We also highly recommend replacing the clutch master cylinder in this circumstance.
